Every year, we, Tuaoenos gather together to celebrate our Patronal Town Fiesta - the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels.
The town of Tuao has truly been blessed by her Guardian Angels in the last 414 years of her existence. Amidst the many formidable challenges she has faced, she has been protected and blessed with calm and strength to overcome them. Our fiesta celebration is known and labelled as “Pattaraddayan” – an itawit word which means a gathering as ONE, in a place, for an event or an occasion. It is a word that perfectly describes what Tuao, as a community, is most known for. When one says in itawit, “mattaradday tera”, it means “let’s come together, be one with and for each other”. It is a term that connotes UNITY.
The “Pattaraddayan Festival” was launched in October 2016. Different activities were lined-up to make the people feel that there is reason to be thankful to a loving God. Community activities include a Pista sa Nayon Cultural Evening, a Palarong Bayan, a Playground Demonstration competition, Tree Planting in the community, a Garden Fair and a Fellowship Night which is participated in by the provincial, local and barangay officials, national government agencies, students, pupils and the community as a whole. Activities that foster camaraderie and togetherness.
The preparation of native delicacies such as the sinabalu (Bamboo rice cake) and the sucalati (chocolate drink from cacao beans) has become a tradition that residents as well as visitors look forward to enjoying. The sharing of these delicacies and the practice of opening up one’s house to family, friends and strangers alike during this time nurture our age-old values of bayanihan, self-reliance, friendliness, appreciation for our own gifts and talents, and respect for each other’s differences.
UNITY is a character unique to Tuao. It is what makes Tuaoeños achieve what they want and have, as a community. Together, each man’s struggle, each move forward, will always be easy for a Tuaoeño because he is confident in his strength, which he draws from a community that he knows will stand with him.
