About Balicasag Island
This 25 hectares Balicasag Island lays some 60 kms to the southwest of the mainland Panglao, off the southwest tip of Bohol. It can be accessible by motorized banca (diving boats, island hopping boats and outrigger boats) at a circa 30 minutes from Alona beach. Seashore is made of white pebbles instead of white sand. There’s a coral reserve (sanctuary) near here where you can snorkel.
In the light of Bohol being identified as a tourist hub, inflows in the area of tourism and manufacturing can serve as possible venues for Bohol’s future investments. Letter of Instruction No. 75 issued on May 22, 1973 serves as a major guideline in indicating areas for tourism related investments and infrastructure development while Proclamation No. 1801 proclaims certain areas in Bohol as tourist zones which includes Balicasag Island.
The island’s crystal blue waters provide a clear, vivid view of its corals, fishes and other marine life. The area is excellent for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. Large school’s of Vlamming’s Unicorn fish and silver Jack’s Big eye Trevally that are swimming in circles like a tornado Midnight Snapper and many different kinds of big size Sweetlip fishes. Among the overhangs are yellow bucket sponges, the wall have big and colorful sea fans. Often Barracudas and Anglerfish, among the shallow water the snubnose drummer. Off the wall in the blue water the Big-mouth Mackerel. Close to the wall many Golden Sergeant fish and many Pyramid Butterflies. Also seen in the One-Spot Snapper. A true aquarium with many Gold band Fusilier, Red tooth Trigger fish and Turtle. On the reef edge between 10 and 15m are great corals like the Brown Daisy coral and some Big Bucket sponges.
