Here we have the butterfly as a metaphor for a well-dressed woman. More than just a song, this is a record of what a well-dressed woman of the late 19th/early 20th century would have considered essential in her wardrobe: An over-skirt (tapis) to wrap around her long-trained skirt (saya de kola), the hem of which would have been lifted slightly to show off the embroidered slip (enagua or nagwas). The sleeves of her blouse (baro) would widen gradually towards the elbows, her hair kept in place by a gold-trimmed tortoiseshell comb (peineta). In such an ensemble, a well-bred woman would walk slowly and gracefully, but the wearer immortalized in this song is less than decorous - she checks here mirror in church and sashays sensually! -Curve Entertainment
